It has been a crazy few days, but we are so excited!!! Last night I met with Fred Alvarado and his most fantabulous crew, and we worked out the details for the Broken Warriors Angels’ Christmas for Homeless Veterans and Health Fair. There will be many services there to aid and support any needs they may have, and
Tartan will be there helping to serve a traditional hot meal of ham, pasta salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and pie.
We are also collecting clothes donations of hoodies (very needed), coats, beanies, gloves, socks, scarves, blankets and cold weather clothes such as jeans, sweatpants and shirts. We need all sizes and take men’s and women’s.
Some other things we would love to have are backpacks or string knap sacks, thermoses/water bottles, hot hands/warmers, small toiletries (mouthwash), $10 gift cards to Whataburger (or if anyone has a great hook up to Whataburger and can get us 150 of those nifty coupons for a free burger ), and chocolate bars or Christmas candy.
We are also going to try and have wrapped gifts for children who come, so any new toy donations would be appreciated.
Finally, if you want to come out and escape the drama and chaos of the whirlwind of…. well…. everything….. we would LOVE to have you help. I will be sorting clothes on Friday, Dec. 23 and then serving and handing out clothes on December 24th. Everyone is welcome and we will have a meaningful, fun and festive time bringing joy to people who need it the most.
If you have any questions, donations, or want to help, please let me know. I can pick up or you can drop off at our downtown Castroville office off Houston Square.
Thank you!
Paula Davidson
